Victim’s family says crash near Mamit Lake resulted in fatality

MAMIT LAKE, B.C. — UPDATE: RCMP have released some information on the crash that took the life of an Ashcroft woman.

Cst. Mike Halskov confirms the crash happened either late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning, on Highway 97C near Mamit Lake.

Halskov says the collision involved a single vehicle with a lone occupant.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by Logan Lake RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.

EARLIER: CFJC Today has learned a crash on Highway 97C in the Mamit Lake area this week resulted in a fatality.

RCMP have yet to release any details, but the crash took place Tuesday, near the home of a resident who had contacted CFJC Today about speed concerns on the highway.

The cause of this particular crash has not been released.

Family members say the victim of the crash, identified as 67 year old Marion Mooney of Ashcroft, had been returning home after visiting family in Maple Ridge.

RCMP have told family members they have not ruled out a health-related issue as a contributing factor.
