KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP introduced its new Officer in Charge to the media today.

Superintendent Syd Lecky arrived in Kamloops a week ago and replaces the departed Brad Mueller.

He said he’s excited to be here and noted fighting crime will continue to be a top priority for the detachment.

“Certainly organized crime I don’t have to tell you has been a priority here. You just have to read the newspapers and listen to the news and you know why. And I certainly appreciate that and I feel that pressure and I understand why. So, that will remain a priority for our detachment moving forward.”

Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian was on hand to welcome Lecky and said the decision to hire him was “unanimous.”

Lecky, who is of First Nations descent, is originally from New Brunswick and comes to Kamloops from Terrace where he was detachment commander the past two years.
