KAMLOOPS — After a long and snowy winter, Kamloops’ Civic Operations Department is rethinking its annual snow clearing budget.

A spike in calls from the public during snow events, and the significant growth and development of the city has put pressure on the Streets team’s operation and its budget of $1.6 million.

Some recommended improvements include an increase in communication to the public through advertising and social media, adding three staff members, adding two trucks with extendable blades and sanders, and an additional contract grader for large snow events.

In order to implement all of the proposed the changes, the snow clearing budget would need to be increased by $400,000.
