LILLOOET — Crews aren’t letting up in their fight against the Xusum Creek fire near Lillooet.

The suspected human-caused blaze broke out May 23 and has been remapped at 483 hectares — slightly less than the previously estimated 500 hectares. It remains 35 per cent contained.

“The BC Wildfire Service has 40 personnel on site today with one helicopter working to extinguish hot spots,” says Marla Catherall, communications assistant with the Kamloops Fire Centre. “We are conducting a monitored response to this wildfire just as the mid to upper slope is inacessible so we’re unable to get crews in there.”

As a result, she says crews are currently working at the bottom half of the slope and notes the area below — Highline Road — is now 100 per cent contained.
