KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Wildfire Service says they saw an average number of fire starts in the Kamloops Fire Centre this spring, and an above average amount of hectares burned.

According to Fire Information Officer Brenna Ward the 51 recorded fires burned a total of 3,785 hectares.

“Over the last 17 years the average number of fires we see in the spring between April 1 and June 1 is 113,” Ward said, “and that is only because a couple seasons did have a few more than 100. But, it is generally between the 40 and 60 number.”

The average number of hectares burned in that time frame is 360.
