KAMLOOPS — A federal cabinet minister made a rare appearance in Kamloops this afternoon.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau appeared on behalf of Culture Minister Melanie Joly, announcing a $188,000 contribution to renovations at the Sagebrush Theatre and Pavilion Theatre.

Western Canada Theatre Managing Director Evan Klassen says the renos will include new carpeting and rigging in the Sagebrush.

The renovations in the Pavilion will include new flooring and lighting fixtures.

"Through the Canadian Cultural Spaces Fund, this money is matched with contributions from our own capital reserves, from the City of Kamloops and the school district, who are all jointly contributing toward the success of Kamloops' only two professional producing theatre companies and venues."
