KAMLOOPS — April’s unemployment rate stayed fairly static year-over-year in Kamloops.

Statistics Canada Labour Market Analyst Vincent Ferrao says it was 8.8 per cent last month, compared to 8.5 per cent the same time last year.

“In April, we had just under 70,000 people employed. A year ago, we had about 64,000 people employed. And the number of people who were looking for work was 6,700 this April, a year ago was 5,900. So, slightly more people were looking for work.”

Though month-over-month comparison’s are not as statistically significant according to Ferrao, the rate did drop from 10.3 per cent in March in Kamloops.
