MERRITT, B.C. — BC Wildfire Service personnel are working to snuff out a fire that popped up yesterday just south of Merritt.

The blaze is listed as 2.5 hectares in size, and is classified as “being held,” which means it is not expected to expand beyond its current boundaries.

Fire Information Officer Brenna Ward says there are 10 crew members on scene working to extinguish the blaze, but also to determine where and how it started.

Ward notes the blaze is likely human-caused, but she says it is not threatening any buildings.
