Prescribed burn scheduled for Chu Chua

CHU CHUA, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service has scheduled another springtime prescribed burn, this one in the North Thompson Valley.

The 27-hectare target is around Chu Chua, just north of Barriere, and will take place inside a window bounded by April 26 and May 14.

Exact timing of the burn will be dictated by weather conditions.

The service says it will conduct the burn in partnership with the Simpcw First Nation, and smoke will be visible from nearby communities of Barriere, Darfield and Little Fort.

Each controlled burn is meant to reduce the wildfire risk around grassy areas near homes.
