KAMLOOPS — Interested in becoming an auxiliary fire fighter? Well, here’s your chance.

Kamloops Fire Rescue is on the lookout for “motivated, fit citizens who are committed to serving their community” at the following three fire stations:

  • Station 4, 615 Porterfield Road, serving Westsyde
  • Station 5, Heffley Creek Road, serving Rayleigh and Heffley Creek
  • Station 6, 5300 Dallas Drive, serving Dallas and Barnhartvale

Ideally, KFR is seeking candidates who live within eight kilometres of each of these stations to minimize response times in the event of an emergency.

Recruits help support the services provided by full time firefighters. Work includes responding to fires and emergencies, routine apparatus maintenance and weekly training.

Applicants are invited to pick up a comprehensive manual that outlines the criteria and testing regimen required for selection as an auxiliary firefighter at Station 1 at 1205 Summit Drive.

An information session will be held on February 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the KFR Training Centre on Bunker Road. The deadline to apply is Feb. 23.

Training is provided though preference will be given to those with prior National Fire Protection Association accreditation. The screening and application process will take six to eight weeks.

Successful candidates will be required to attend Saturday training for several consecutive weeks.
