Sun Peaks Family Practice busy in first month of operation

SUN PEAKS, B.C. — The new Sun Peaks Family Practice has been a busy place since opening one month ago. 

The community’s lone physician, Dr. Shane Barclay works four days a week at the health centre. 

Sun Peaks Mayor Al Raine says the clinic is nearly full every day. 

“I think we will move to probably 5 days a week,” Raine said. “Eventually, by next winter, we should be at 7 days a week. It’s really going well.” 

Raine says people outside of the Sun Peaks community are seeking medical care at the new family practice.

“We’ve got mostly people from Sun Peaks, but we also have people from Kamloops,” he said. “They come up, and they don’t have a family doctor, and they’re registering here. It’s just working fantastic.” 

Raine adds young families living at Sun Peaks are no longer having to travel to Salmon Arm to see a doctor.
