KAMLOOPS — Great news for outdoor enthusiasts as backcountry access has been re-opened in Wells Gray Provincial Park.

The decision to rescind the closure was made by BC Parks and Recreation Sites and Trails BC due to improved weather conditions.

Despite the re-opening, the BC Wildfire Service is maintaining a campfire ban throughout the entire Kamloops Fire Centre.

“Wildfires are dynamic and circumstances may change quickly,” the ministry said in a statement. “BC Parks and the BC Wildfire Service will continue to assess the situation to help protect public safety. Should the need arise, provincial park closures may be enacted in the future.”
