Kamloops — There’s a new face at the Kamloops Airport.

Today the Vantage Airport Group welcomed its new managing director, Heather McCarley.

McCarley succeeds Fred Legace, and comes to Kamloops after working for 22 years at YVR in Vancouver.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me to come and work in Kamloops,” she said. “This airport is a successful airport, it’s a good economic generator, it’s connected to the community and I love that. I’m excited to be a new member of the community.”

McCarley, who has 30 years of experience in the industry, said she hopes to build on the accomplishments of Legace and his team.

“I plan to continue that great work and look for new opportunities. I think there’s an opportunity for perhaps some new routes or new destinations to serve, and we’ll be looking at that in the future.”

Legace speculated one of those new routes may be a connecting flight between Kamloops and Edmonton, which ceased to exist in January 2016 due to a downturn in the oil and gas sector.

“A lot of that is going to depend on the strength of the Alberta economy. There’s is though a fairly strong connection between Edmonton and the Kamloops area.”

Legace said that introducing a connecting flight to the provincial capital, Victoria, would be another important route to add to the Kamloops Airport.
