Driver inattention cause of six-car pileup in Valleyview

KAMLOOPS — Police are reminding drivers to practice extra caution after a six-car pileup in Valleyview Friday.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sergeant Robert Daly says a driver heading east made a sudden stop at the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Vicar’s Road at around 5 p.m.

Six vehicles were damaged and towed from the scene tying up traffic for hours.

Five people were sent to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life threatning injuries.

RCMP are reminding the public to always leave extra space in front of vehicles especially over the long weekend.

“There’s more cars on the road on the long weekend which means there’s a need higher for vigilance especially when coming through the city,” said Daly. “Drivers need to be more aware and keep their distance.”
