RCMP eliminate rail activity as potential cause of Elephant Hill fire

KAMLOOPS — RCMP investigating the origin of the Elephant Hill fire west of Kamloops are zeroing in on a potential cause.

The blaze began July 7 near Ashcroft, quickly destroying the nearby Boston Flats Trailer Park and growing to more than 117,000 hectares as of this morning.

Staff Sergeant Annie Linteau says even though the blaze started near train tracks, it doesn’t appear that played a part.

“We’ve eliminated train line activities as a possible cause of the wildfire, meaning it was not caused by train traffic or rail maintenance-related activities on the rail line,” said Linteau.
