KAMLOOPS —  The warm weather is expected to be with us all week, and the long range forecast for the July 1st celebrations indicate sunny skies and highs in the low thirties.

We came close to setting a record yesterday in Kamloops , with a high of 36 degrees even. That’s just 3-tenths of a point off the 2004 record of 36.3.

A little cooler today, with highs forecast of 31, but still several degrees above seasonal normals.

Although we didn’t set a record yesterday here , several communities did.

Cache Creek set a new record. Lytton was the Canada hot spot, with a high above 36 degrees, breaking the record set in 1926.

Chilliwack, Hope, Squamish, Gibson’s and Victoria also hit new record highs.

If you’re doing anything outdoors this week, be sure to protect yourself.

Health authorities remind you to protect your head with appropriate headwear, make sure you have plenty of sunscreen, and if you start to feel the effects of too much heat, get out of the sun.

Above all, carry water or other liquids with you to ensure you stay hydrated.
