KAMLOOPS — There was plenty of excitement and adrenalin in the air at Kamloops Airport Saturday.

Skydivers from B.C,  Alberta, Washington State, and Oregon packed Fulton Field to take part in the 50th annual Maymeet, hosted by the Kamloops Skydivers Sport Parachute Club.

Dean Shryver, a manager with the local skydiving club, says the event is one of the longest running skydiving events in North America.

“It’s amazing,” said Shryver. “There’s definitely more jumpers out this year to help us celebrate the milestone.”

While a terrifying thought for some, Shryver says jumping 10,000 feet from a plane isn’t as dangerous as it sounds.

“The gear has developed so much,” said Shryver. “The sport has become unbelievably safe, we mitigate the risks. There’s nothing like it in the world, there’s no words to describe what it’s like when you jump out of that plane.”

Maymeet runs all weekend long.
