KAMLOOPS — Multiple accidents on the Coquihalla Highway this morning, Oct. 8, have prompted RCMP to issue a traffic advisory.

Corporal Cheryl Bush says people must slow down and drive to the conditions.

"The Coquihalla Highway is experiencing snow at higher elevations," she said. "Therefore, we are just asking motorists to slow down and use caution in those areas. The roads are extremely slippery at this point and time. And ensure you have winter tires on."

Bush says drivers should also be aware and move over for any emergency vehicles on the road.

"Motorists need to slow down to 70 on the highway when they are approaching motor vehicle accidents, but that's in ideal conditions," Bush explained. "Basically, if we're experiencing snow and poor visibility up there the travel speed needs to be even lower than that."

Merritt RCMP and Kamloops Rural RCMP are responding to multiple accidents throughout the region.
