Police warn about dangers of Pokemon GO

VANCOUVER  —  Police around the province have already been cracking down on distracted drivers. But now there’s a new distraction for your cell phone- Pokemon GO.  Vancouver police have ticketed a number of people over the past two days, and RCMP Corporal Jodi Shelkie in Kamloops says it’s a concern for the police that there are people worrying more about capturing characters than keeping their eyes on the road. She says they want players to have fun, but to remember that distracted driving can lead to serious injuries and even death. The tickets being issued fall under the new distracted driving laws in our province, which can take 543 dollars out of your pocket for a first offence.

And in Toronto, a woman playing Pokemon GO was nearly hit by a driver who was also playing the game. The driver couldn’t be charged because there was no accident, but they’re urging players to be careful. In B.C., however, the distracted driving laws might well have applied.
