B.C. bright spot in new unemployment stats

VANCOUVER — The latest employment numbers from Statistics Canada show B-C was the lone bright spot in June, in terms of job creation.
This province was the only one to create a significant number of jobs last month — adding 16-thousand positions — while other provinces stayed the same or saw losses.
StatsCan says more jobs across the country were created in the service sector, but those were offset by layoffs among factory workers, leaving the national jobless rate in June almost static at 6.8 per cent, down from 6.9 per cent in May.
Unemployment in B-C fell to 5.9 per cent last month from 6.1 per cent in May, with declines in Vancouver, Victoria and Abbotsford, but the biggest drop was in Kelowna where the rate tumbled seven-tenths of a point to 7.5 per cent, down from 8.2 last month. (The Canadian Press)
