Man pulled to safety in downtown house fire

KAMLOOPS — Passerby’s who first reported a house fire at the corner of 5th Avenue and Nicola Street ran inside the home and pulled a resident to his safety.

Platoon captain Rob Chalmers says KFR responded to the house at 12:25 this morning and found heavy fire conditions on the outside wall at the back of the building.

“We actually had a very quick knockdown so there was very little fire damage to the interior of the building,” says Chalmers.

He says there was extensive exterior damage to the north west corner of the building.

“All of the siding burned off. Some damage to one of the windows knocked out. The fire went into one of the interior walls and the ceiling. Our crews had to open up the roof to check for extension. There will be water damage to the house too.”
