Lillooet emergency department to temporarily close for the first time in 2025

LILLOOET, B.C. — The first temporary closure of an Interior Health emergency department in 2025 is affecting residents in Lillooet.

Interior Health says the emergency department at Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre will be unavailable from 7:00 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15) to 8:00 a.m. Thursday. A reason for the 25-hour closure was not provided in a news release issued Tuesday (Jan. 14).

All other inpatient services will continue as normal at Lillooet Hospital. Residents in the area who need life-threatening emergency care are asked to call 9-1-1 or travel to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops during the 25-hour closure.

The emergency department in Lillooet experienced 20 temporary closures in 2024. Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre had gone two months without a temporary closure of its emergency department, with its last one being Nov. 8, 2024.
