KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Venom need two more victories to claim their third consecutive Thompson-Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League crown.

Connor Barrett, Austin Krug and Seamus Bankier recorded hat-tricks for the Venom in a 15-7 victory over the Vernon Tigers on Sunday (July 14) at Memorial Arena to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five TOJLL championship series.

Caleb Campbell (2), Tyson Von Hollen, Logan Krug, Nate Van Unen and Owen Barrow also scored in support of Kamloops goaltender Brendan Hunchak, who made 27 saves to pick up the victory between the pipes.

Vernon will play host to Game 2 on Wednesday (July 17), with game time slated for 7:00 p.m. at Kal-Tire Place.

Game 3 is slated for Saturday (July 20), a 7:00 p.m. start in the Snake Pit at Memorial Arena.

The TOJLL champion will play host to a best-of-three series against the B.C. Junior B Tier 1 Lacrosse League champion to determine which club wears the provincial crown.

Kamloops is aiming to lock up its eighth league title since inception in 2008 and compete for its third B.C. championship in club history.

The Victoria Shamrocks toppled the Venom in the 2023 Tier 1 Junior B B.C. Lacrosse Championship.

Kamloops fell to the Coquitlam Adanacs in the 2022 provincial final.
