Man shot dead in Valleyview motel believed to have been targeted: Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS — A man was believed to be shot dead in Valleyview overnight.

In a news release issued Friday morning (May 31), Kamloops RCMP say officers were called to a motel at the 2500-block of Trans Canada Highway East shortly after midnight where a man was found dead in one of the rooms. Officers remain at the Trans Canada Motel as RCMP believe the man is a victim of a homicide.

“Although very early in the investigation, preliminary observations suggest the shooting was not random,” Supt. Jeff Pelley says. “At this time, it’s too early to speculate on a motive or if it’s related to any other investigations currently occurring.”

RCMP state a police presence will remain at the motel throughout the weekend as officers secure the scene, talk with residents in the neighbourhood and collect evidence that could be connected.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation. RCMP say no further details are available at this time.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has dash camera or security camera video that may have captured activity before, during or after the call to police at 12:08 a.m. Friday, or in the hours following, is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.
