KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are alerting the public of a conflict between local drug traffickers after a third reported shooting in as many days.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP say officers responded to the 800-block of Sudbury Avenue on the North Shore at around 4:15 a.m. Saturday (May 4), where the sound of gunshots and a vehicle speeding away were reported. Minutes later, police say they received another report of three men with running behind the 1200-block of 10th Street – the same road where officers responded to the report of shots fired at a home with a silver, older model Jetta seen leaving the area.

RCMP say a suspect was found hiding at a nearby business and was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Police also seized a red BMW with damage that appeared to be caused by gunfire.

“This shooting, along with the previous two shots fired reports received since Friday, are believed to be related to an ongoing conflict between local drug traffickers,” Supt. Jeff Pelley says. “Our frontline officers and support units including Serious Crimes, Targeted Enforcement, Crime Reduction, General Investigation Support Team, and Forensic Identification Services, are working tirelessly to address this risk to public safety associated to those involved in criminal lifestyles.”

No injuries have been reported so far, and police say two people have been taken into custody as part of the investigation. Pelley is asking residents to review their security video and report any suspicious activities that could be related to the ongoing drug trafficking conflict.

Anyone with further video or information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.
