Nelson snaps at chance to continue family CFL lineage with Leos
KAMLOOPS — Roger Nelson won two Grey Cups playing for the Edmonton Eskimos, hoisting the Canadian Football League’s holy grail in 1954 and 1956.
He died before his grandson Kyle Nelson was old enough to strap on pads but — in a roundabout way — had a major influence on his career.
“My grandfather played in the CFL, I think on the O-line, and also did some snapping, as well,” said Kyle, whose 10-year NFL career included a Super Bowl appearance in 2020 with the San Francisco 49ers. “He tried to get my dad to learn how to snap. My dad was like, ‘No, I don’t want to do it.’
