Delta Burke Talks About Her Struggles
Delta Burke, known for her role as Suzanne Sugarbaker on Designing Women, disclosed her struggles with weight scrutiny, revealing that she resorted to using crystal meth to lose weight. On the Glamorous Trash podcast, Burke explained how her weight-loss journey began with prescribed pills while studying acting in London, followed by “Black Beauties” on the set of Filthy Rich in the early 80s. As her tolerance to the pills grew, she eventually turned to crystal meth, which she consumed in cranberry juice to suppress her appetite. Reflecting on the pressure she faced, Burke stated, “They were still saying, ‘Your butt’s too big. Your legs are too big.’ And I now look back at those pictures and go, ‘I was a freaking goddess.’” Despite the challenges, Burke went on to achieve success with Designing Women, earning two Emmy nominations.
