Kamloops city crews working to remove compact snow before temperatures plummet

KAMLOOPS — Following the community’s largest widespread snowfall of winter so far, City of Kamloops crews are aiming to clean up the remains before temperatures drastically drop.
Glen Farrow, the City of Kamloops’ streets and environmental services manager, says the city’s main roads – such as Aberdeen Drive, Pacific Way, Hugh Allan Drive, Columbia Street and Tranquille Road – will remain the focus Tuesday (Jan. 9) with minimal work being done on smaller side roads. He expects Kamloops residents on smaller roads to see crews and equipment as early as late Tuesday afternoon.
“Based on the amount of snow we received throughout the afternoon and evening, and the high volumes of traffic on those [main roads], we definitely have some compacted snow,” Farrow told CFJC Today. “We’re encouraging residents to give yourselves more time to get where you need to get. Slow down and definitely give our operators the space and time to do the good work they need to do.”
There’s added urgency for city workers as the temperature in Kamloops is forecast to rise above zero, melting some of the compact snow on the roadway, then drop below zero and eventually reach minus double digits for the foreseeable future.
