KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers have gotten the jump on this week’s Western Hockey League trade deadline by bidding adieu to a hometown boy.

Monday afternoon (Jan. 8), Kamloops announced the club has traded veteran forward Dylan Sydor to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Sydor, an ’03 birthday, has spent his entire WHL career with the Blazers. This season, he leads the club in scoring with 19 goals and 30 points in 34 games.

In return, the Hurricanes send Kamloops two draft picks and another 20-year-old forward, Blake Swetlikoff.

The picks are in the third round of the Prospects Draft in 2024, and in the second round of the 2025 draft.

The Regina-born Swetlikoff has 94 points in 195 career WHL games. The Hurricanes acquired him from the Spokane Chiefs during the 2022-23 season.

Lethbridge is in a tough playoff battle in the Central Division, three points ahead of Calgary for fourth spot.

Kamloops remains last in the Western Conference with 23 points.

The Blazers’ next game is Friday (Jan. 12) at home to the Everett Silvertips.
