Salvation Army Kettle Campaign wraps up just shy of donation goal

KAMLOOPS – This year’s Salvation Army Kettle Campaign has come to an end, and the organization says locally it once again came up short of its fundraising goal.

The campaign started Nov. 15 and concluded Dec. 23.

The local branch set out to raise $240,000. By the end, it was $9,500 short of the goal.

“Perhaps we are not hitting our mark because, like I say, the high cost of living because of inflation. It’s hard for many this year,” said Major Orest Goyak from Kamloops Salvation Army. “Things are on the rise and we are just trying to get by. With that, we’re here to help as much as we can.”

Goyak says the organization had a bit of trouble filling volunteer positions at first, but after reaching out to the community, he saw an influx of support, both for bell ringers and donations.

“A wonderful thing happened in the last seven days of our campaign,” he said. “In the last seven days, we raised $73,000. That’s a pretty good final stretch, I think, coming up to the end goal.”
