KAMLOOPS — Just across the parking lot from Stuff the Cruiser was another vehicle just waiting to be filled with donations.

The City of Kamloops and BC Transit partnered with Save-on Foods for their annual Stuff the Bus campaign, with donations collected for the Kamloops Food Bank.

Save-On had pre-packaged hampers in $5 and $10 values and shoppers also picked up any items they saw fit to donate.

“It’s been great so far, a lot of donations,” Jacob Burnley, transportation planner with the City of Kamloops explains. “We had some pre-made bags that have been supported through Save-On Foods, and then some other donations — some non-perishables, some monetary donations. Really well received so far.”

Stuff the Bus took place on Saturday and Sunday, with hundreds of shoppers helping out with donations. The event was also an opportunity for city staff to engage in discussions about transportation, all while giving back to the community.

“The food bank is obviously very community focused, as is transit, at its core,” Burnley says. “Combining support for Kamloops Food Bank and Kamloops Transit makes a lot of sense, for us. We’re able to promote some of our transit initiatives and support a great community cause and the community has been really behind it, and supporting it so far, which is fantastic.”
