SICAMOUS, B.C. — On Friday (Dec. 1) at 3:00 p.m., Sicamous RCMP responded to a call of an elderly male being assaulted and carjacked in a gas station.

The owner of the vehicle, a 90-year-old resident of Salmon Arm, was approached by a stranger at a fast food restaurant in Salmon Arm that afternoon, pleading for a ride east on the highway. The elderly male eventually agreed to the request and the pair departed in his SUV.

Upon reaching Sicamous, the victim pulled over to a gas station and told the man he would not drive any further, to which the stranger responded by grabbing the keys from the ignition, striking the elderly man on the head and pushing him off the stationary vehicle before driving away.

Revelstoke RCMP set up a roadblock to locate the vehicle after a witness at the station called police to report the incident. Police later found the vehicle abandoned in the Malakwa area.

The suspect has not yet been located, and is described as, “Possibly in his 40s and wearing a plaid lumberjack style jacket that was black or blue in color. The man had a scruffy appearance and was 6′ tall with an average build,” wrote the RCMP.

The victim was treated at the scene and taken to hospital for minor injuries to his face and hand.

Anyone with information related to the identity of the person responsible for this crime can contact the Sicamous RCMP or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
