Council to consider weekly organics collection for Kamloops households through the winter

KAMLOOPS — At next week’s regular meeting, Kamloops councillors will be presented with the option to have city crews collect organic material at curbside every week through the winter.

As it stands, curbside organics collection is moving to bi-weekly pickup from December through February. The city’s models show residents generate less organic waste during the winter.

However in her report to council, Solid Waste Reduction Coordinator Marcia Dick says “some residents are voicing concern” with that plan.

Dick recommends council either continue with bi-weekly pickup for the next three months before returning to weekly pickup, or authorize weekly pickup year-round, which would likely come with a rate increase in 2025.
