Salvation Army ‘Adopt a Family’ campaign returns

KAMLOOPS – The Salvation Army’s ‘Adopt a Family’ campaign is back as the holiday season approaches.

Each year as part of the campaign, individuals and businesses in the Kamloops area are invited to sponsor a family in need.

Sponsors receive general information about their adoptive family.

“[With] the kids, actually, we do an interview process. We have, like, a wish list for children and we have tons of kids from 0 to 16. And yeah, we just match up the families with the sponsors and Christmas happens,” said Maj. Tracy Goyak from the Kamloops Salvation Army. “It’s very important to the families because a lot of families are struggling. We have stories of single moms raising children with disabilities.”

According to Goyak, last year the campaign had more than 200 adopted families including 400 children being sponsored.

“The people that receive are so grateful,” she said. “I mean, it’s just a wonderful thing for them to be able to give their children something, and the people who give, we’re always hearing good news stories about how good they feel at Christmas that they can give something and that’s a gift in itself.”

Anyone wishing to become a sponsor in this campaign can call (250) 554-1611 or visit the Kamloops Salvation Army, located at 344 Poplar Street.
