Freezing rain on its way to Kamloops area: Environment Canada

KAMLOOPS — It’s too early to determine the exact timeline and seriousness but Kamloops are encouraged to prepare for freezing rain Thursday (Nov. 2) morning.

Meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron says Environment Canada is confident a storm will approach Kamloops and area from the Pacific Southwest. It’s expected to bring warm air aloft, although there will still be cold air trapped near the surface.

“There’s still a bit of uncertainty with respect to exactly when it will be starting. Right now, it looks like sometime Wednesday night. Definitely over the Coquihalla Highway by Wednesday night,” Bergeron told CFJC Today. “That would be mixed precipitation – snow and freezing rain and the possibility of ice pellets – then progressing to Kamloops by Thursday morning at the latest. Eventually it does turn to rain later in the day.”

With freezing rain comes the risk of slippery surfaces that can cause crashes on roads and injuries on sidewalks. Bergeron encourages residents not to travel amid or following freezing rain unless it’s absolutely necessary.
