Ludvig was picked in the 2019 NHL entry draft by the Florida Panthers. Earlier this month, he was selected off waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 23-year-old defenceman was in the Penguins’ lineup for the first time for Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Stars.

Midway through the second period, Ludvig made a hard open-ice hit on Stars’ forward Radek Faksa. The impact appeared to stun Ludvig, who fell hard to the ice.

He was later helped to the dressing room by teammates. Wednesday, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan announced Ludvig has been diagnosed with a concussion and is out indefinitely.

Ludvig is the son of former NHLer and current Kamloops Storm head coach Jan Ludvig.
