WILLIAMS LAKE — BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) announced southeast wind gusts of 60-70 kilometres per hour are forecast for the entire Cariboo Fire Centre. Increased smoke and fire activity are expected.
“Although Category 1 campfires remain permissible in parts of the Cariboo Fire Centre, we advise the public to make responsible decision for the next 72 hours,” BCWS stated. Category 2 and 3 fires remain prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre including the Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area.
BCWS says winds will persist until Monday, when they could reach up to 80 kilometres per hour. Personnel remain on-site throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre should they be required.
