CACHE CREEK, B.C. — Residents in Cache Creek and area are invited to a public open house regarding planned improvements to Highway 97 and how they can enhance safety and help prevent flooding.

In a news release issued Thursday (Sept. 21), the B.C. government says its Highway 97 Cache Creek Crossing Restoration Project will include installing a bridge to replace the culvert under Highway 97 where it crosses Cache Creek.

The province claims the bridge will be designed to handle peak river flow and debris, including spring freshet. Additionally, the province says the bridge will withhold increases in peak water flows caused by climate change and be stable against erosion.

The open house comes five months after spring runoff water caused Cache Creek to spill over its banks and flood the village, damaging Highway 97 in the process.
