CLEARWATER, B.C. — A commercial truck driver who was caught on dashcam video passing on a double solid line around a curve on Highway 5 near Clearwater is no longer in Canada.

In a news release issued Wednesday (July 26) morning, B.C. Highway Patrol says the driver responsible for the dangerous pass in early April 2023 was let go from the company after it learned of the near miss.

Investigators say the driver lived in Edmonton, and when they requested Edmonton Police Service to serve a B.C. violation ticket on behalf of BC Highway Patrol, they learned the driver had left the country and returned home as he was no longer working.

BC Highway Patrol says charges under the Motor Vehicle Act of B.C. have a one-year statute of limitations. Should the driver return to B.C. within one year, Highway Patrol says it would look to lay charges.

Anyone who sees a motorist driving dangerously is asked to contact their local police detachment.
