KAMLOOPS — On Tuesday, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack announced the hiring of a new Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball program.

Chad Jacobson will officially start his new role with the WolfPack on April 1st. The Brandon, MB native comes to TRU from the University of Saskatchewan, where he served the past eight years as the lead assistant coach for the Huskies.

Jacobsen also served part of the 2022 season as the Huskies’ acting head coach, where he led the U of S to a Canada West Bronze medal and silver medal in the USports National Championship tournament.

“I am very grateful and truly honoured to have been given the opportunity to join WolfPack Athletics and Thompson Rivers University,” said Jacobson, in a media release. “I am so thankful to the WolfPack leadership team for believing in me and providing me the opportunity to lead and continue to build upon the strong foundation and past success of the program. I am looking forward to getting the chance to work with our student-athletes, WolfPack athletics staff, and the Thompson Rivers University community.”

Jacobson played three years at Minot State University, an NCAA Division II school in North Dakota before he returned home to finish his collegiate career with the Brandon University Bobcats. In his final year, the Bobcats won Canada West and CIS silver medals.

He’s also coached Team Saskatchewan U16 and U17 teams and coached the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League – first as an assistant in 2019, and as head coach in 2020 and 2021.

“After a search that included candidates from around the world, we couldn’t be happier to welcome Chad and his family to the WolfPack,” said WolfPack Athletics and Recreation Director, Curtis Atkinson. “His years of experience in the Canada West conference are a huge asset. He knows what it takes to construct a successful program both on and off the court and we are excited for him to continue building on the legacy of excellence that is WolfPack men’s basketball.”

According to the media release from the WolfPack, Jacobson is looking forward to taking over for Scott Clark, who stepped into a new role with TRU earlier this year.

“Being able to coach in a program and at an institution where coaches and student-athletes are provided the opportunities, support, and strong leadership in order to achieve success both on and off the court means so much to me,” said Jacobson. “My family and I are thrilled to join the WolfPack and excited to become a part of the community and to be able to call Kamloops home.”
