KAMLOOPS — The head coach of Thompson Rivers University’s (TRU) men’s basketball team of 13 years announced that the 2022-23 season will be his last.

In a news release issued Monday (Feb. 13) morning, Scott Clark announced he stepped down as head coach of the WolfPack following the end of their season on Saturday. The WolfPack state Clark will move into a new position within the department – manager, high performance sport – on March 1.

“The demands of the job, as a head coach, are hard to meet at this time,” Clark says. “Just evaluating things moving forward, I don’t have the energies to do the job the way I would like to do the job. I’m extremely proud of all the guys that I’ve been able to coach… When you recruit kids, they often say, ‘oh I want to be a pro’, the truth is that all these guys that have played for me are pros. It’s satisfying to see that I have a lot of former players that have gone on to great things – and I’m not the reason for the success, but I hope that I can share in part of that.”

In the new role, the WolfPack say Clark will work closely with coaches, performance-staff and student-athletes, and help determine new ways to support team performance.

Under Clark’s guidance from 2010 to 2022, the male WolfPack earned their first U SPORTS postseason berth in the 2013-14 season. In total, the WolfPack qualified for the playoffs seven times and won eight playoff games. The WolfPack have won five Canada West awards and two U SPORTS awards during Clark’s tenure.

The WolfPack finished the 2022-23 season with a 5-15 and out of the playoff picture.
