‘Some important news coming very soon;’ Education Minister hints at possible funding announcement for SD73
KAMLOOPS — The student population of School District 73 is currently increasing by the size of one elementary school every year. That has left a large majority of schools in the city at or above capacity. The Ministry of Education has pledged its support for new elementary schools in Pineview and Batchelor Heights but so far no funding has been allocated.
The school district’s top priorities are two new elementary schools along with a new high school in Aberdeen. The Pineview and Aberdeen locations were the main topics of conversation on Sunday (Jan 22), when the board of education met with Minister Rachna Singh.
“Since yesterday when I came, I’ve had the opportunity to talk with the board of education and the school district about the challenges that this community is facing, especially in increased enrollment,” said Singh. “That is an issue that we are very cognizant of — we are working very closely with the school community.”
