Crown to determine whether Kamloops RCMP officer involved in 2021 arrest should be charged

KAMLOOPS — The province’s police watchdog says the B.C. Prosecution Service will determine whether a Kamloops RCMP officer should face charges after a suspect was injured in a 2021 arrest.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) has wrapped up its investigation into the arrest that took place on December 3, 2021, in Riverside Park.

That’s where a teenager, the suspect in a robbery investigation, suffered a serious but not life-threatening injury in the course of being taken into custody.

IIO Chief Civilian Director Ron MacDonald reviewed evidence in the case, concluding there are reasonable grounds to believe “one officer may have committed an offence in relation to the use of a police vehicle.”
