IIO investigating after reported robbery arrest in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — BC RCMP say they’ve notified the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia of an incident in Kamloops that resulted in one male being taken to hospital.

Friday (Dec. 3) near 7:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a robbery at a local mall. While officers were en route they received a second report of a theft from the same mall.

According to RCMP, witnesses from the second theft provided a description of one of the suspects. Officers later located a person matching the description riding a bike and attempted to pull him over. Police say the suspect reportedly attempted to flee, but officers brought him to a stop and arrested him.

After the suspect was taken into custody, officers noted that he appeared to have suffered an injury and was taken to hospital.

RCMP state IIO has been notified and will be investigating the incident and the actions of the officers. Police will not release further information as the case is under IIO investigation.
