TRU WolfPack women advance to quarterfinals in thrilling fashion

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Women’s Soccer Team won in a thrilling way on Saturday (October 22) over the UVic Vikes as the game came down to penalty kicks.

In front of a full crowd at Hillside Stadium, the TRU women’s squad was victorious beating the Vikes 2-1.

In the 88th minute, Ainsley Grether scored to tie up the game at one goal a piece.

The game came down to penalty kicks as Caylah Lemon, Hawan Abdissa, Madeline Trozzo and Lydia Keating all scored on their attempts.

It all came down to one stop needed for TRU and goalkeeper Marissa Young was the hero stopping the final attempt.

With the win, TRU advances to the Canada West Quarter-Finals for the first time in program history.

The women now will travel to Calgary next weekend to face the Mount Royal squad that they defeated 2-0 back on September 17.
