Clearwater emergency department temporarily closing for another eight nights

Aug 19, 2022 | 10:09 AM

CLEARWATER, B.C. — Eight is enough. Or so we thought.

In a news release, Interior Health says the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Emergency Department in Clearwater will close from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. each night for the next eight nights, starting Friday (Aug. 19).

The new eight-night closure begins the same day 24-hour emergency service was set to resume in Clearwater after previously closing for eight nights dating back to Aug. 11. The emergency department will be closed for 16 consecutive nights.

The closures — or diversions, as Interior Health calls them — are due to limited staffing availability.

The department will be open during daytime hours.

Residents who need emergency care while the department is closed are asked to call 9-1-1 or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1, or go to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
