Kamloops 55+ Games calling for volunteers

KAMLOOPS — The Canada 55+ Games are coming to Kamloops next month, but organizers are still needing volunteers to make the event a success.

The Director of Volunteers Elsa Poppleton says the Games will require 600 volunteers.

“We’re asking them to commit to a minimum of 4 hours, but shifts will average four to six hours in length,” says Poppleton, who also works for the Kamloops Sports Council. “Our volunteer registration drive is formally underway, and we are looking to the incredible Kamloops community for their support”

The biggest need right now is in the medical area for people who know first aid, as well accreditation areas, where people would welcome athletes and sign in the participants.

The 55+ Games, which give adults 55 and older an outlet to compete and socialize with their fellow competitors from across the country, will bring nearly 3,000 participants to the Tournament Capital.

Anyone interested in volunteering can fill out a form at the Kamloops 55+ Games website. Organizers can also be contacted at volunteer@kamloops55games.com or 250-828-3823.
