100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The first open burning ban of the season is coming into place in the 100 Mile district of the Cariboo Fire Centre.
The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) says Category 3 fires will be prohibited as of 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 4.
Category 3 fires represent any fire larger than two metres high by three metres wide, three or more concurrently-burning smaller fires, windrows, or stubble or grass burning larger than 0.2 hectares.
BCWS says the prohibition is being put in place to “prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.”
