B.C. reports 1,618 new cases over weekend; 90 per cent of adults have first dose of vaccine

VICTORIA – As of Monday (Oct. 25), 90 per cent (3,893,775) of eligible adults in B.C. have received one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 85 per cent (3,676,200) received their second.

For eligible residents 12 and older, 89.6 per cent (4,152,455) have received their first dose, while 84.4 per cent (3,910,536) have received both.

B.C. reported 1,618 new COVID-19 cases over the past three days, with 254 of them in Interior Health.

The three-day breakdown is as follows:

  • Oct. 22 to 23: 613 new cases
  • Oct. 23 to 24: 529 new cases
  • Oct. 24 to 25: 476 new cases

Elsewhere, 699 new cases were reported in Fraser Health (2,030 active), 289 in Northern Health (1,042), 190 in Vancouver Coastal Health (619) and 186 in Island Health (551). No new cases were reported from people who reside outside of Canada, although that active total remains at 59.

The provincial active case count sits at 4,966 (down by 140 since Friday), while Interior Health is at 665 (down by 113). Of the provincial active cases, 366 are in hospital, with 149 of them in intensive care.

Twenty new deaths have been reported over the last three days, raising the provincial total to 2,129.

There have been five new healthcare facility outbreaks, none of them in Interior Health. The outbreak at Tofino General Hospital in Island Health is declared over, for a total of 29 active outbreaks. Five outbreaks in Interior Health are still active, including Overlander Residential Care in Kamloops.
