NANAIMO — A motorcyclist lost their life after a tragic accident when trying to turn.

The 59-year-old rider was on Jingle Pot Rd. turning left onto Ashlee Rd. near Cathers Lake on Tuesday, Sept. 7 around 7:40 p.m.

Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW it appeared the motorcyclist hit the curb while turning, then crashed into the ditch.

He later died in hospital.

“We spoke to several indirect witnesses who said they saw the motorcycle being driven quite fast and erratically prior to the crash,” O’Brien said.

It’s believed nobody witnessed the crash. A driver passing by the scene minutes after stopped to perform emergency first aid and called 911.

The motorcycle involved will undergo a mechanical inspection as the investigation continues.
